Macon woman dies in Jones County traffic crash

Published: August 29, 2012

A Macon woman died following a Tuesday afternoon car crash on Ga. 49 near Loise Lane.

Madonna Simmons, 41, was driving south on Ga. 49 between Gray and the Baldwin County line just before 5 p.m. when another woman’s Mitsubishi crossed the center line and struck her Pontiac Sunfire, said Shannon Moseley, a Jones County Sheriff’s Office traffic fatality investigator.

Alicia Ethridge, 40, of Milledgeville, was driving the Mitsubishi headed north when another vehicle tried to merge into her lane. Ethridge slammed on her brakes, hydroplaned and went into Simmons’ lane, Moseley said.

Both women were taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia by ambulance. Simmons didn’t survive, he said.

Ethridge remained in the hospital’s intensive care unit Wednesday, Moseley said.

No charges have been filed.
