Wilkinson County schools close early after ‘potential threat’

Published: August 24, 2012

Wilkinson County public schools closed about an hour early Friday afternoon after officials learned of a “potential threat.”

Students and faculty were sent home after administration official learned of a threat made against one of the system’s campuses, according to a statement from the school system.

Superintendent Aaron Geter said the system followed its protocol and alerted the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities were gathering information about the threat Friday afternoon. Geter said his office would make more information available once the campuses were cleared by law enforcement.
