ATHENS - Supposedly, Georgia will not begin preparations for Missouri until more than a week from now. First up is Buffalo, the season-opening opponent on Sept. 1.
But a slip of the tongue from Mark Richt indicates otherwise.
Georgia held its so-called practice game on Wednesday, as it annually does about 10 days before its season opener. It set it up as "Georgia" vs. "Buffalo", with the scout-teamers being Buffalo.
Faton Bauta, a true freshman who is likely to redshirt this season, served as the quarterback for "Buffalo." But when Richt was asked about Bauta imitating Buffalo's quarterback, this is what Richt actually said:
"Faton is really good at simulating Franklin."
Buffalo's quarterback is not named Franklin. He is Alex Zordich.
But Missouri's quarterback is James Franklin.
Zordich, a junior, was named Buffalo's starter earlier this week. In any case, the Bulls are a run-based team, and don't run the spread.
Missouri does run the spread, and Franklin is a dual-threat quarterback. Bauta is also regarded as a dual-threat quarterback.
So ... there you go.
