A Fort Valley woman was arrested at her home late Monday and charged with bilking elderly Middle Georgia residents.

Bibb County sheriff’s investigators are expected to file additional charges against 34-year-old Katina Hope Wright, who they say targeted the elderly in “several scam incidents,” according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Wright, also known as Katina Hope Pittman, approached several people over time, claiming that she knew them from a doctor’s office. She told the people she needed to borrow money because she was having car problems and was stranded.

After the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office asked for the public’s help Monday in identifying the woman, investigators got about 40 tips Monday and Tuesday from residents of Bibb, Houston and Peach counties.

Wright, of a Vinson Road address, was being held in the Bibb County jail Tuesday, charged with two felony counts of the Disabled Adults and Elderly Persons Protection Act, as well as two misdemeanor charges of theft by deception. Bibb County sheriff’s Lt. Sean DeFoe said Wright also will face charges of parole violation and a Superior Court probation violation.

Thanks to the tips called in, Bibb County investigators will contact their Houston and Peach county counterparts, DeFoe said, which could lead to more charges being filed in those counties once the case is prosecuted in Bibb County. DeFoe said the tips also may lead to additional charges in Bibb County.

Houston County sheriff’s Capt. Robert Clark said Wright was arrested nine times by the sheriff’s office and Warner Robins police from 2004-10. She was most recently charged with a probation violation in 2010, stemming from a 2009 charge of financial exploitation of the elderly.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact Investigator Tania Greer of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 621-5675 or Macon Regional CrimeStoppers at (877) 68-CRIME.
