Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones is asking for the public’s help in identifying the remains of a man who was found dead Saturday afternoon in an abandoned house at 4340 Houston Ave.

Jones said the body has been decomposing for at least a couple of weeks, making it impossible to determine the man’s age, race or cause of death. An autopsy will be performed Monday, Jones said.

Jones said neighbors think the victim’s name was C.W. Whitfield or Winfield.

Given the current high temperatures, Jones said it’s important for people to check upon their neighbors, especially elderly ones.
