Search for Bibb County campus chief’s job back to square one

Brenda Davis-Jones will not be the Bibb County school system’s next police chief.

In an e-mail to school board members Friday afternoon, school Superintendent Romain Dallemand said that “as a result of issues that have surfaced over the past week,” he had decided not to offer Jones a contract as police chief.

Dallemand did not elaborate on what those issues were in his e-mail.

The school board approved Jones’ hire at its July 19 meeting, and the school system had even listed her on its website as one of its new administrators.

On July 28, however, The Commercial in Pine Bluff, Ark., where Jones is now police chief, reported that she had released a statement saying that she had not been offered or accepted employment with the Bibb school system. Jones, who formerly worked for the Macon Police Department and Fort Valley State University, took the job in Pine Bluff in 2010.

The school system chose Jones from among 15 applicants for the campus police chief’s job.
