Javors Lucas edged out Democratic primary opponent Regina Davis by just 60 votes in the Macon Water Authority Ward 2 race. Unofficial totals show Lucas’s 2,380 votes to Davis’s 2,320 will allow him to continue his 31-year streak on the board. The 89-year-old Lucas faces no Republican opposition in November.

After a 2009 change approved by the Georgia Legislature, the term of service will be four years rather than six years on the board, which sets policies and rates for providing water and sewer service to Macon, Bibb County and some surrounding towns and counties.

Davis, a real estate agent, promised to offer a fresh perspective. But Lucas, a retired federal employee and sign painter, has proven staying power. Macon’s reservoir is even named for him.

Davis has now been defeated by both Lucas and his daughter, Miriam Paris, who beat Davis in a Macon City Council race five years ago.
