If you can drink to that, mark your calendars for Aug. 25 at 4 p.m. That’s when the taps start flowing downtown for the Macon Beer Festival, a Pints for Prostates event.

Pints for Prostates, founded by prostate cancer survivor Rick Lyke of Charlotte, N.C., in 2008, is a national campaign to raise awareness among men about the need for regular health screenings and PSA tests using a universal “guy” language -- beer, according to the group’s website.

This will be Macon’s second year hosting an event. It’s being organized by the Rotary Club of Downtown Macon, Main Street Macon and several downtown venues.

Participants can stroll into downtown eateries and bars and sample three beers at each location.

Men 40 and older will be offered a free PSA blood test, a $75 value.

Tickets purchased the day of the event cost $20.

Musiq Soulchild selling book at new Macon club

JD’s Drama & Dinner Theater, 550 Riverside Drive, is certainly making its presence known.

The club, which opened less than a month ago, landed R&B heavyweight Musiq Soulchild. He’ll be there Friday, from 6:30-8 p.m.

Unfortunately, Musiq will not be performing. He’ll be at JD’s signing copies of his new book, “1 4 3 LOVE According to Musiq.”

The “1 4 3” stands for “I love you.”

Musiq has two platinum albums, two gold albums and seven hit singles.

He has received awards from Billboard, MTV, the American Music Awards and the NAACP, and has 11 Grammy nominations.

It would be nice to hear some of those love ballads and soul-filled grooves that make him a standout in the R&B world, but I’ll settle for a book signing.

As long as Musiq writes about love as well as he sings about it, he’ll be welcomed with open arms in a town that could use a little more love.

The book is about love and relationships inspired by Musiq’s life.

If Macon comes out in droves and shows some love, maybe he’ll come back to JD’s for a future performance.
