The Vine Ingle 11-12-year-old all-star team looked to be in a groove Wednesday night in the District 5 tournament, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after an inning-and-a-half against Dudley.
Unfortunately for Vine Ingle, lightning stopped that game, and that was followed by a downpour of more than 45 minutes, forcing the game to be suspended. Action will pick up in the bottom of the second with Dudley batting at 5 p.m. on Thursday in Warner Robins.
Vine Ingle scored six of its runs in the first inning, taking advantage of three Dudley errors. Brett Welch started the outburst with a double with one out and scored when Andrew Long tripled him home. After Austin Hartley and Jackson Fillingim both walked, an error by the Dudley third baseman scored two more runs. Matt Muse and Carson Riley also had hits in the inning.
Beau Mullis did lead off Dudleys first inning with a single, but Hartley struck out the next three hitters to end the inning.
The suspended game moves everything back one day. The winner of the Vine Ingle-Dudley game will meet Warner Robins East at 6 p.m. on Friday, with the winner of that game taking on Warner Robins West in the championship game at noon on Saturday.
