WARNER ROBINS -- Leyton Pinckney hit a two-run home run in the first inning for the Warner Robins American Little League West all-star team in the team’s district tournament opener Saturday, and the team never looked back.

Warner Robins West won 14-1 in four innings over Western Little League to conclude the first day of action at the seven-team, double-elimination Georgia District 5 tournament.

Pinckney went 2-for-3, adding a double to his home run, and also pitched for a third of an inning.

Also having home runs were Chase Padgett, who had a two-out grand slam in the top of the fourth, and Cody Winner, who hit the ball over the left-field fence to score three in the top of the second.

“We were fortunate we made some runs early,” manager Martin Pinckney said.

Warner Robins led 5-0 after one inning, 8-0 after two and 10-0 after Conner Bookout’s two-run double in the third.

Winner started as the pitcher for Warner Robins West, getting a strikeout. Tyler Mayfield came on in relief and had three strikeouts.

Tee Adams made two good plays at first, jumping in the air for one and catching a ball behind his back in foul territory for another.

Western didn’t score a run until the bottom of the fourth, when Colby Sylvia connected on a sacrifice to score Seth Payne, who reached base when he was hit by a pitch.

Pinckney said he graded the game as a “B.”

“We didn’t hit the ball as hard as we could throughout our lineup,” he said.

Warner Robins West will face Dudley Little League, which beat Macon 23-1 on Saturday, at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Macon and Western will meet at 6 p.m. on Sunday in an elimination game.

Pinckney watched part of the Dudley game to get a sense of what to expect.

“They have good, solid hitters,” he said.

Warner Robins East will open tournament play at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Vine Ingle, which beat West Macon 26-0 on Saturday. West Macon will face the Dudley-Warner Robins West loser at 6 p.m. on Monday.
