Three children were taken to the hospital in a Fourth of July boating accident on Bibb Countys Lake Tobesofkee near Claystone Park.
Shortly before 4 p.m., a pontoon boat with about a dozen people on board was pulling a raft carrying the trio -- ages 15, 9 and 6 -- when a speed boat traveling in the other direction ran over the rope, said Doug Furney, the director of the Lake Tobesofkee Recreation area.
Both of the operators werent paying attention to what they were doing, Furney said. We had a lot of boats out here.
The youngsters, believed to be from Bibb County, were pulled into the side of the speed boat and sustained cuts and bruises.
They were taken by ambulance to the hospital and were treated and released, he said.
After complaining about pain, the 6 year old was sent back to the hospital Thursday morning where doctors discovered the child had a fractured skull and a blood clot, said a representative with the Department of Natural Resources, which investigated the case.
No charges had been filed as of Thursday night pending further investigation.
Both boats were going slowly or it could have been a much more serious situation, Furney said.
