Western Little League shut down Warner Robins American Little League 5-2 in the first game of the District 5 softball tournament Friday at the Western Little League fields.
I told them we hadnt beaten Warner Robins in several years and to go out and leave it all on the field, Western manager Mike Phillips said.
Warner Robins scored first with an RBI by Caitlyn Davis, which scored Megan Whitaker.
But Madison Powell brought home Kassidy Hullett to start the scoring for Western. And An RBI by Megan Frank scored Madison Powell to put Western ahead, and it didnt trail again. In the top of the third, Warner Robins evened the score at 2 with a hit from Sarah Henderson.
Western answered with an RBI double by Powell, making it 3-2.
In the fifth, Western stretched its lead to when Marilyn Nesmith scored on an error by Warner Robins pitcher Courtney Walker. Hannah Griffin added a sacrifice to score Kassidy Hullett for the final run.
One person didnt win that game, Phillips said.
Western plays at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Macon Little League while Warner Robins plays at 2 p.m. on Sunday against the loser of todays game.
