Azyia Brookins won the title in the long jump Friday at the Georgia state meet for the Junior Olympics, and she set a national record along the way.
Competing in the 8-and-under age group, Brookins had a jump of 3.81 meters, which beat the previous record of 3.38 meters.
Brookins, who competes for the Macon Striders Track Club, qualified to go to the regional meet July 5-9 in Newport News, Va. The national meet will be held July 28-Aug. 1 in Baltimore.
