Harrison Ford arrives in Macon, eats at Natalia’s

Published: June 7, 2012

Actor Harrison Ford, star of the movie “42” that’s currently filming in Macon, arrived in town Thursday night and ate dinner at Natalia’s.

Before getting into an SUV outside of the Bass Road restaurant, Ford said he had just arrived in Macon and that it’s his first visit to the city.

Ford, star of the “Star Wars” and Indiana Jones movies, is portraying Brooklyn Dodgers team president Branch Rickey, the man who signed Jackie Robinson to a baseball contract. “42” is a biopic about the life of Robinson, who broke baseball’s color barrier in 1947.

Natalia del Basso-Orsini, owner of the restaurant, said Ford is probably the most famous actor to have eaten there, though she noted that other celebrities have also dined there.

“He was very pleasant,” she said. “I’m not surprised they came here, but happy they came. ... It’s big for this town.”

She said Ford invited her briefly to sit at his table and asked her about her life and how she came to open the restaurant.

Dr. Thomas Jones, a local endocrinologist, was eating at the restaurant with a colleague and spoke briefly to Ford.

“He looks just like you’d expect him to look,” Jones said. “He’s very unpretentious, very friendly.”
