The Macon Water Authority will host its annual kids fishing derby Saturday at Lucas Lake. No fishing license is required.
Children ages 3 to 16 may cast their lines for the biggest catch of the day. Adults, which will be admitted only if accompanied by a child, may fish for free in designated areas away from the competition. Participating kids must catch their own fish to enter the derby.
Registration opens at 7 a.m. with the weigh-in beginning at 10:30 a.m., when the top three largest catches in four age-group categories will be awarded prizes. In addition, a grand prize will go to the biggest catch of the day. Lunch and refreshments will be provided, and admission is free.
Attendees must bring their own fishing poles, bait and tackle to the entrance on Broach Lane off Upper River Road.
For more information on the derby, visit the MWA web site at www.maconwater.org or call the authority at (478) 464-5653.
