Houston County High School senior striker Patrick Braxton earned top honors as the Region 1-AAAA boys soccer player of the year in a post season vote of league coaches. Bears head coach Jason Kirk was named coach of the year. Houston County High midfielder Colin Little, midfielder Everick Little, goalie Stephen Robertson and striker Andrew Weber joined Braxton as first-team selections on the all-region squad. Defender Dillon Mixon of Northside High School and midfielder Mack Nelson of Warner Robins High School were also named to the first team.
Locals who earned second-team honors were Dylan Baughman (Houston County High); Kyle Floyd (Warner Robins High); Garrett Goff (Warner Robins High); Chantz Little (Warner Robins High); Ezequiel Morales (Houston County High); Tim ODonnell (Houston County High); Seth Semones (Northside High) and Sammy Valdivia (Houston County High).
1-AAAA all-region girls soccer team named
Several local athletes were named to the all-Region 1-AAAA girls soccer team in a post season vote of league coaches. Four players from Northside High were honored as first-team selections: Keina Crawford (midfielder); Anna Maddox (goalie); Krista McDonald (defender) and Kellie Starvetsky (midfielder). Midfielder Maggie Dimes of Warner Robins High and her teammate, forward Erin Hill, also earned first-team merit as did midfielder Rachel Preston of Houston County High.
Locals who earned second-team honors were Alex Clark (Warner Robins High); Hannah Crozier (Houston County High); Lisa Dowden (Northside High); Brittany Green (Houston County High); Jasmine Johnson (Houston County High); Haley Lambert (Warner Robins High); Lauren Sutton (Warner Robins High) and Erin Taylor (Northside High).
Goalie Amie Markel of Houston County High earned honorable mention.
1-AAAA all-region baseball team named
Several local athletes were named to the all-Region 1-AAAA baseball team in a post season vote of league coaches. Houston County Highs Austin Wallace was named region pitcher of the year. Bears head coach Jason Brett was chosen as coach of the year. Outfielders Garrett Kline and Hunt Smith joined Wallace as first-team selections from Houston County High. Northside High had three players named to the first team: Cole McArthur (third base); Jesus Monserrat (shortstop) and Kendall Scott (relief pitcher.)
Locals who earned second-team honors were Dillon Blackwell (Warner Robins High); Trent Jones (Houston County High); Jack Montgomery (Northside High); Ty Odom (Warner Robins High); David Umphreyville (Houston County High) and Clint Wynn (Houston County High).
Honorable mention awards went to Hunter Bobbitt (Northside High); Dalton Carriker (Houston County High); Scott Daniel (Houston County High); Jason Gifford (Northside High); Justin Jones (Houston County High); AJ Priaulx (Warner Robins High) and Brent Sappe (Northside High).
Andersen leads all-star team to win
Recent Veterans High School graduate Nick Andersen scored two goals as his white team earned a 3-0 win over the blue in the DiVarsity all-star soccer game at Marist High School. Andersen, the team MVP, was joined on the squad by fellow Veterans High graduates D.J. Garrett, Devante Mitchell, Carl Killingsworth and Casey Zwitch.
Honors for Erickson
Warner Robins High graduate Tyler Erickson earned selection to the Peach Belt Conference all-academic golf team.
The Armstrong Atlantic University junior finished the year with a GPA of 3.86. He majors in chemistry.
Coach Charlies runningand fitness camp
Local distance running coach Charlie Santiago is organizing a summer running and fitness camp at Central Georgia Soccer Association complex. The camp kicks off with an orientation and registration meeting at 7 a.m. Friday.. The camp will then will be held each week of June in two sessions: 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and 7-9 p.m. Fee is $25 per week.
