KATHLEEN -- Veterans pitchers struggled with control and Cartersville took advantage Wednesday afternoon.

Cartersville batters walked eight times and were hit by four pitches as the Purple Hurricanes rolled to a 15-0 win in the opening game of the GHSA Class AAA second round series.

Cartersville managed 15 runs off just eight hits. Veterans managed just three hits, while the Warhawks committed five errors in the field.

Cartersville beat Veterans 3-1 in Game 2. The Purple Hurricanes shut the Warhawks out for 11 straight innings before Veterans managed to score on an error in the final inning of the second game. The Warhawks stranded runners in scoring position in five of the seven innings in Game 2.

Veterans (20-10) was making its first playoff appearance. The Warhawks won Region 2-AAA, and head coach David Coffey said he thought his team raised the bar for future Warhawks squads.
