A Macon man was shot in the head early Saturday while driving on Pio Nono Avenue, lost consciousness on Interstate 75 and died at a Hartley Bridge Road gas station.

Antonio Bernard Felton, 29, of Schley Street, was slumped under the wheel of a 2003 Cadillac Deville when Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones pronounced him dead with a gunshot wound to the right side of his head at the Citgo station at 4:20 a.m., Jones said.

Felton’s girlfriend told Jones that Felton was shot at about 3:45 a.m. and she took over at the wheel after he slumped over on the highway, Jones said.

“It happened in the city, but he drove to the county, so both the Macon Police Department and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office are investigating,” Jones said.
