CertusBank has laid off 20 of its Macon employees.
K. Angela Webb, president of the Easley, S.C.-based bank, told The Telegraph that employees were notified Tuesday.
We consolidated a few of our jobs in Macon and northern Georgia. ... It was a tough decision. It was about streamlining our business, Webb said in a telephone interview Wednesday morning.
CertusBank acquired the failed, Macon-based Atlantic Southern Bank and 16 of its branches in May 2011.
Webb said the employees who were laid off would have an opportunity to apply for positions the company is planning to add in Macon and northern Georgia.
They will also be given severance and career placement services to help them find employment, she added.
