Macon Mayor Robert Reichert and Bibb County Commission Chairman Sam Hart said Tuesday theyll work to implement the school systems Macon Miracle plan.
Hart and Reichert spoke at a press conference about the idea of working with the Macon Transit Authority to get transportation options for students to go to charter schools.
Reichert said hes interested in having the Macon Police Department handle security and truancy for the school system across the county.
Also speaking at a Tuesday press conference were Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority Chairman Cliffard Whitby and NewTown Macon CEO Mike Ford. Both of them said the countys troubled school system is hurting the community.
Whitby told The Telegraph that some potential employers dont give Bibb County a second look.
We know and weve been told that our education system disqualify us in many ways, he said.
