Second football assistant leaves Mercer

Life got a little more lonely for Mercer football head coach Bobby Lamb.

Jeff Farrington was named as defensive coordinator at VMI last week, leaving Lamb with no staff three weeks after National Signing Day.

VMI is led by former Appalachian State and South Carolina head coach Sparky Woods.

Carroll McCray, who came with Farrington to Mercer and became official on July 1, left last month to take over as head coach at North Greenville, a Division II program in Greenville, S.C. Both were on Lamb's staff at Furman.

Farrington's name surfaced for the position last month, and he reportedly accepted the position about 10 days before he was officially introduced.
