The chief executive officer of Community Health Works has resigned.
Gregory J. Dent announced his resignation to the organization’s board of directors and staff Monday, according to a statement from the organization.
Dent did not say what the future would hold for him or when his last day at the nonprofit would be.
Dent has served as president and CEO of the health advocacy nonprofit for more than seven years. During his tenure, the organization has become a regional center for health advocacy, wellness initiatives and community engagement, growing from serving the core seven counties of Middle Georgia (Bibb, Houston, Monroe, Jones, Peach, Crawford and Twiggs) to 70 counties across the state today.
“Over the course of last year, Community Health Works expanded our outreach exponentially throughout the state,” Dent said in the statement. ... “I leave the organization with confidence and pride in its focus on making good health available, affordable and within everyone’s access.”
In 2003, after serving as a board member for Community Health Works, Dent was asked to take a more active role in the organization. He served as chief financial officer before becoming the CEO, where he was charged with navigating the organization by adapting programs to meet the health needs of Georgians from acute to preventatives services.
“It’s just time,” Dent said. “It’s time in the life of Community Health Works for a transition. And it’s time in my life for a transition. I look forward to new challenges and opportunities. I remain passionate about health access, serving the underserved and the central Georgia community.”
