A man was arrested Friday in Macon and charged with criminal attempt to commit robbery.
George Gilbert Waterman, of Chester, was arrested at the SunTrust Bank at 1104 Gray Highway just before noon Friday, according to a news release from the Macon Police Department.
Waterman came into the bank and was attempting to conceal his identity, according to the release. Several employees noticed that he appeared overdressed for the mild weather conditions and one of the employees tried to talk to him. When Waterman didnt respond, the employee told another worker who called 911.
As police officers came in the front door, Waterman removed his hood and was taken into custody, the release stated.
He had a large knife on him. Police located Watermans vehicle behind the Burger King at 1188 Gray Highway.
Waterman was taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, jailed about 3 p.m. and was released about 7 p.m. Friday after posting bail of $16,700
