Pro-life state legislators are renewing their effort to outlaw abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, citing studies that say fetuses can feel pain by that age.
State House Bill 954 has the same intent as a failed bill from 2011, but is written in tighter legal language.
At that time, the bill got a committee hearing but never made it to a House of Representatives floor vote.
State Rep. Allen Peake, R-Macon, carried last years bill and is a top signer of this years legislation. Georgia law now bans abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy.
