Fetal pain bill reintroduced in Georgia House

Pro-life state legislators are renewing their effort to outlaw abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, citing studies that say fetuses can feel pain by that age.

State House Bill 954 has the same intent as a failed bill from 2011, but is written in tighter legal language.

At that time, the bill got a committee hearing but never made it to a House of Representatives floor vote.

State Rep. Allen Peake, R-Macon, carried last year’s bill and is a top signer of this year’s legislation. Georgia law now bans abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy.
