Macon businessman Tom O. Wagoner announced Friday that he’s running for chairman of the Bibb County Board of Commissioners.
The seat is now held by Sam Hart, who plans to run again. Wagoner said he’ll run as a Republican.
Wagoner said the county could benefit from his experience as a businessman, which has included building budgets and hiring people. He said his skills are important as major issues, such as a $190 million special purpose local option sales tax, approach.
“Let’s do this thing right,” Wagoner said in an interview. “We’ve got an intergovernmental agreement coming at us. We’ve got consolidation, it’s got to happen this time. And right behind it we’ve got SPLOST coming. We’ve got one more time to get it right. If we don’t get it right this time, we’re hung.”
Wagoner founded, runs and owns Core Management Resources Group, which manages self-funded health plans and other business. He has also led the Better Business Bureau, Mercer University’s executive forum and the March of Dimes.
