The Booker family has a long tradition of playing football at Albany State.

Two generations of that family played there, including Dexter Booker, who was on the team as a defensive back in 1982.

Dexter’s son, Isaiah Booker, continued his family’s college football line Wednesday when he signed his national letter-of-intent at Westside. But he didn’t sign with Albany State, instead opting for Valdosta State.

“It’s great,” Isaiah Booker said. “It’s a blessing to sign and go play college football.”

Isaiah Booker was a two-year starter at left tackle for Westside, earning second-team All-Middle Georgia honors during his senior season. He said Valdosta State is looking at moving him to guard. Both Westside and Valdosta State operate out of multiple offensive sets that tend to favor the pass, and Booker said he feels some familiarity in what Valdosta State runs.

“He went on his visit to Valdosta, and he fell in love with it,” Westside head coach Sheddrick Risper said. “Coach (David) Dean was my college coach, and he has a way of letting the players know that he really cares. It’s a good fit for him.”
