Crawford County and Roberta are sharing the costs of several public works projects, including efforts to bring better utility service to the countys revamped recreation area and an industrial park.
A draft intergovernmental agreement matches county funds and ditch-digging expertise with the citys water system and expertise with pipe. The upgrades are badly needed, County Administrator Pat Kelly said.
One line -- along Hortman Mill Road near houses, a church and the countys new concession stand -- isnt big enough to meet demand, Kelly said.
Weve got too many straws into that 2-inch line, Kelly said. If everyone takes a shower, nobody can take a shower.
That line would be replaced with a 6-inch water line. Water and sewer lines would be extended to a new spec building in the Development Authoritys industrial park.
A third construction project would extend a 6-inch water line along U.S. 341 North past the Crawford County administrative offices, offering an option to residents who now have well water.
If the plan is finalized by Robertas government -- a vote is expected Feb. 7 -- the county will buy about $10,000 worth of materials for the three projects. That money would later be paid back by the city when sales-tax proceeds are received. County crews and equipment would dig the ditches and trenches for the water and sewer pipes. The citys experienced crews would connect the water and sewer pipes.
Were going to get together and get it done, Kelly said.
Kelly said the three projects are all near the city limits.
County officials had worried theyd have to bring in two different water lines to the concession stand to get enough water supply. The new water lines should cure such problems for the concession stand and residents. At least one fire hydrant will also be installed with the larger water line, Kelly said.
