Mercer will try to break a seven-game losing streak when it hosts Kennesaw State in women’s A-Sun basketball Saturday afternoon at the University Center.
Kennesaw State is one spot above Mercer, Lipscomb and USC Upstate, who are all battling to stay out of last place.
The Lady Owls are 7-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play while the Bears are 3-14 and 1-5.
Redshirt freshman guard Taylor Mills leads Kennesaw State with 13.2 points per game. She is the only freshman in the A-Sun leading her team in scoring. Mills is also second with 4.1 assists and tied for second with an 83.6-percent mark at the free-throw line.
Preseason all-conference pick Sametria Gideon is 14th in the conference with 11.7 points and eighth in shooting at 43.6 percent.
Kennesaw State has one win in its past four games, 74-63 over USC Upstate two days before losing 77-61 to East Tennessee State.
The Lady Owls have wins over Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville State, UNC Asheville and Troy, among other teams.
Mercer is back home after a rough road trip. The Bears lost 72-46 at ETSU last Saturday and 77-56 to USC Upstate on Monday.
Briana Williams is tied for fourth in the conference with 14.4 points while Ry’van Buchanan is 18th with 10.8 points and 15th with 5.8 rebounds. She is fifth in field goal percentage at 47.9.
The Bears host Jacksonville on Thursday and North Florida next Saturday.
