Eagles named to AP FCS team

Two Georgia Southern football players were named to the Associated Press FCS All-America team Thursday.

Senior offensive lineman Brett Moore was a first-team selection, while defensive lineman Brent Russell was a second-team pick.

Georgia Southern takes on North Dakota State in an FCS semifinal game Saturday. The game will be televised by ESPNU.

Dooley to sign books in Macon

Former Georgia head football coach Vince Dooley will conduct a meet-and-greet to promote his new book, “History and Reminiscences of the University of Georgia,” from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kroger located at 220 Tom Hill Sr. Blvd. in Macon.

According to a news release, Dooley’s book details the history of the university from 1785 through the present. The 160-page book is illustrated by Steve Penley, is published by Looking Glass Books of Decatur and is distributed by John F. Blair, Publisher, of Winston-Salem, N.C.

The list price for Dooley’s book is $45.

Georgia college men fall in overtime

The Georgia College men’s basketball team dropped its Peach Belt Conference opener at North Georgia on Wednesday, losing 53-52 Wednesday in overtime.

Senior guard Jared Holmes led all scorers with 14 points. Ryan Aquino added 11 points.

Georgia College (6-2) takes on Mars Hill at 3 p.m. on Dec. 30 in Savannah.
