ATHENS - Malcolm Mitchell may have had a setback in his return from a hamstring injury. Or he may have not. In any case, it's important to remember that it's only Monday.
Georgia's leading receiver practiced on Monday for the first time in a couple weeks, after missing the Vanderbilt game. Then he came out of a drill during the fourth period (out of 20) of practice. Mitchell was seen speaking with athletic trainer Ron Courson; the freshman was walking around fine.
That happened to be the final period that was available for media viewing, so it wasn't known if Mitchell returned to practice or not. Head coach Mark Richt is due to have his weekly news conference on Tuesday; Richt was not asked about Mitchell's status during his radio call-in show on Monday night.
Some other notes:
- John Jenkins wasn't talking as if he expected to get a huge bump in playing time just because fellow nose tackle Kwame Geathers is suspended for the first half against Florida.
"Nothing. Just keep playing," Jenkins said. "It's only a half he's out, so keep playing."
Jenkins' conditioning was an issue in the preseason, but it hasn't really been since the season began, thanks to splitting snaps with Geathers. Now that Geathers is out for a half, Jenkins was asked what percentage of snaps he could play.
"I don't predetermine anything," he said. "I could play a whole game, who knows, and take 100 snaps. Obviously that's not possible. But I don't predetermind anything like that."
Jenkins' decision came down to Georgia and Florida. He said he settled on Georgia because he has family in Lawrenceville and Roswell, and he liked defensive line coach Rodney Garner's up-front approach to his recruiting.
Interestingly, Jenkins said neither school negatively recruited the other one, and in fact gave their blessing.
"Muschamp was just like, we would love to have you here, and you can be a good asset to our defense, I'm a defensive guy myself,' - because obviously he was the DC at Texas - 'and we can make some things happen for you.' But he was like, 'If you do decide to go to Georgia, good luck, God bless and everything.' And he was like real sincere about it. He wasn't just talking recruiting."
- Alec Ogletree was still practicing full-speed, as he was last week. The sophomore seems on track to return to his start spot after missing the past six games.
"He looks good. I'm glad he's back. Because he's just got a speech, he can turn it on. He worked really hard in his rehab, didn't push it too hard, and now he's in a really good place."
Robinson also had a foot injury, a chipped bone, while Ogletree had a broken foot. Robinson has come back gradually, missing two games, and then playing a little bit more in the past two games.
"It's different. But he looks good and I think it's all about how the coaches feel about it. I'd love to have him out there with me and Mike (Gilliard) and Amarlo (Herrera). But it just depends on how things are going, how he's feeling. He's getting used to playing football, but he's looking good."
- Bacarri Rambo said his toe felt fine, after missing the bye week practices.
"I did everything today," Rambo said. "Full contact. I was in a red jersey So it didn't really slow me at all."
Rambo hurt himself on the second-to-last play. He came down on his left big toe wrong, then played the final play with the injured toe. But he crumpled to the ground in pain as the game ended - preventing him from participating in the postgame kerfluffle.
"I'm kinda glad I wasn't in that, because I know me, I probably would've hit somebody," he said, before adding: "No, I'm just playing."
