Bibb County Schools and district Superintendent Romain Dallemand will host another Strategic Planning Session on Monday at the Macon Centreplex from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
More than 4,500 employees, parents and community leaders attended the first session on Sept. 19, to begin developing a plan that will guide the work of the Bibb County school district for the next five years.
Three ideas Dallemand has asked the community to consider are year-round schools, district-wide school choice and teaching all children to be fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese and technology.
I am asking the community to take a hard look at the way education has been delivered in Bibb County, Georgia and the United States the past several decades and find a new and innovative ways to make sure our children are prepared for the 21st century internationally competitive workplace, he stated in a news release.
The strategic plan will be developed over the next few months and presented in January.
Secretary Duncan lauds program that nets Mercer $480K in grants
Mercer University received nearly $480,000 in TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers program grants from the U.S. Department of Education.
The funding will be used to provide counseling and information on college admissions to qualified individuals who want to enter or continue a program of postsecondary education.
A college degree or postsecondary certificate has never been more necessary for success in the global economy, and TRIO programs will help increase the number of people who pursue postsecondary education, by helping them learn about the admissions process and how to find financial aid, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan stated in a news release. TRIO and other programs are making an essential contribution to meeting the presidents goal of having the highest percentage of college graduates by the end of the decade.
The funding is part of more than $47.6 million awarded to 128 grantees in 44 states and Puerto Rico.
Also in Georgia, Atlanta Metropolitan College received $230,000 and Georgia State University Research Foundation Inc., received more than $328,000.
