Interactive map: Bibb County’s congressional redistricting

Under a map approved by the Georgia General Assembly and Gov. Nathan Deal, Bibb County is to be split into two congressional districts.

Those districts and other demographic information are shown here.

The thick line shows where the congressional districts are split. Colors show how each Bibb County voting precinct split its support in the 2010 race for governor: Shades of red show support for Deal, the Republican in the race; blue shows support for Democrat Roy Barnes; and green for Libertarian John Monds. Clicking on each voting precinct will also bring up demographic information.

According to the new congressional map, northern Bibb County, which is primarily comprised of white Republicans, would stay in the 8th Congressional District of U.S. Rep. Austin Scott, a white Republican from Ashburn. The remainder of the county, which is primarily made up of black Democrats, would be part of the 2nd Congressional District of U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop, a black Democrat from Albany, who also represents Columbus.
