Macon police charged a man Friday with stealing a taxi cab.

Gene Cornett, 22, was charged with theft by taking auto after officers located the cab at Wendy’s fast-food restaurant on Gray Highway.

Cornett was with the cab, which had previously been reported stolen, according to a Macon Police Department release,

Cornett said he found the cab in a vacant lot near his Fulton Street home with the keys inside and drove it because he didn’t want to walk to Wendy’s.
