SUNDAY

The Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy will hold a Sept. 11 commemoration at Riverside Cemetery in Macon at 9 a.m. The service will take place at the memorial marker for Maj. Cole Hogan Jr., who was killed at the Pentagon.

A new memorial will be dedicated at Lake Tobesofkee’s Arrowhead Park in memory of the victims of 9/11 and in honor of local first responders at 9:02 a.m. The rest of the morning, volunteers will continue cleanup and planting around the memorial.

The city of Macon will mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11 as part of a national moment of remembrance. Macon Mayor Robert Reichert asks that all churches in Macon that have bells ring them for one minute, beginning at 1 p.m. If weather permits, the Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency will sound tornado sirens for 60 seconds beginning at 1 p.m.

The Forsyth-Monroe County Chamber of Commerce and the Henry County Fire Department are having a memorial tribute at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth at 1 p.m. Sunday. Scheduled guests include Gov. Nathan Deal.

At Georgia College & State University’s front campus in Milledgeville, a remembrance ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. A candlelight vigil is set for 9 p.m. on front campus.

A flag dedication is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Macon’s Linwood Cemetery to honor the first responders who served during 9/11.

The Veterans High School Wind Symphony will present a free 9/11 memorial concert at 3 p.m. Joining the symphony at the performance will be the Valdosta State University Wind Ensemble. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m.

Fort Valley State University’s Political Science Student Association will sponsor a 9/11 Memorial at 5 p.m. at Pettigrew Auditorium.

Mercer University will hold an observance at 8 p.m. Sunday in Newton Chapel on the Macon campus. The interfaith service will begin at the chapel and conclude with a candlelight vigil in front of Roberts Hall.

MONDAY

Alexander II Math and Science Magnet School will host an assembly at 9:30 a.m. Guests will include police, fire, EMT, emergency dispatch and sheriff’s officials.

Macon-Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation 9/11 Dedication Ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Second and Mulberry streets to honor fallen local police, sheriff and fire personnel.
