Simply Cupcakes will satisfy sweet tooth

WOODY MARSHALL/THE TELEGRAPH Simply Cupcakes offers a wide assortment of cupcakes.

WARNER ROBINS -- I love desserts. If it is sweet, I’ll usually eat it. When Simply Cupcakes of Warner Robins was presented to me as a possible restaurant review, I gladly accepted.

And I wasn’t disappointed.

Cupcake shops are springing up just about everywhere and seem to be the latest fad.

This shop has a new menu each day of about eight flavors.

I did try to mix my days around to make sure I got the most selection, but there was one cupcake that is so popular, every time I went in, they were sold out: the key lime cupcake.

It seems this most popular cupcake was created in Naples, Fla., by a lady who owned a cupcake shop called Simply Cupcakes of Naples.

I can only hope it is as good as it sounds.

Usually, there were a few chocolate selections, a few fruit kinds and another two or three varieties. The one staple cupcake was the red velvet.

Each cupcake I tasted was rich and heavy. The frosting was lighter than other cupcakes I’ve had and equally as yummy.

Some of the choices I had were caramel pecan, snickerdoodle, German chocolate, triple chocolate, banana split, cherry royale, simply chocolate, lemon zinger, nya bliss, blueberry blast, raspberry lemonade and s’more.

The raspberry waltz’s description is a simple almond sour cream cake dressed up with a thin layer of raspberry jam, Italian buttercream and a sprinkle of toasted almonds.

I had the lemon cupcake and the chocolate ganache. I have to say I am a huge lemon fan and this one did not disappoint. The lemon was not overpowering as it sometimes can be and the sweet and sour of the cupcake was delicious. This was definitely my favorite of the bunch.

The chocolate was superb as well but very sweet and I felt I couldn’t eat any more. It was also so rich and moist I had to eat it with a spoon because it broke apart. I heard similar stories from my co-workers as well.

A female co-worker tried the cherry royale and said, “it rocked.”

Another said the chocolate frosting on one of the cupcakes was not chocolaty enough for her.

A few of my friends decided to help with the arduous task of eating cupcakes with me.

The blueberry blast was well received by my neighbors, who said the icing in the middle was a very nice touch.

“All expectations of this average-looking cupcake are being blown away,” said one of my tasters.

My co-worker said, “this is the best cupcake I’ve ever had.”

He tried the caramel pecan.

Only one was not well received and it was the raspberry lemonade, which was soggy on the bottom and the person thought the jam in the bottom and lemon-flavored cake did not go well together at all.

The other disappointing item from the cupcake shop was the amount of times they are sold out before 6 p.m.

I went by twice and saw on their website once in a single week they were sold out of cupcakes. It is pretty disappointing to someone who wants to swing by after working until 5 p.m. to pick up something sweet on the way home.

If you bring back the box, you will get a 5 percent discount on your next order. They also have a rewards card. Fill up 10 dozen and the 11th is on the house.
