WARNER ROBINS -- Florida pulled out the big bats for its semifinal contest against Alabama on Wednesday in the Little League Southeastern Regional tournament.
Florida hit four home runs and had 12 hits as it pounded out a 12-6 victory to move into Friday’s championship game.
Florida jumped on top with three runs in the first inning but fell behind 4-3 after the bottom of the first. Alabama built its lead to 6-4 after the second before Florida took control with four runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth.
“After we beat South Carolina the other day, we thought they needed a little kick in the pants,” Florida manager Andy Trujeque said. “So we went out and took batting practice, and we got back to our roots to get them going a little bit.”
That strategy worked Wednesday.
In the sixth, Bryce Martin hit the third home run of the game for Florida to make it 9-6, and Conor Grady added another, a three-run shot for a 12-6 lead.
Grady also had a big night on the mound. He entered the game in relief and held Alabama in check. At one point, he struck out six straight Alabama batters.
“We played great; we hit the ball and Conor was great when he came on the mound,” Trujeque said. “We’re really excited and proud of our team.”
