Macon police followed a trail of leaking vehicle fluid to arrest a man accused of hitting a power pole and fleeing Knott Street about 5:15 a.m. Wednesday.

People living along the street that runs between Jeff Davis and Ell streets lost electricity due to downed lines from the broken pole not far from where Second Street meets Eisenhower Parkway.

Officers tracked the vehicle to a store several blocks away where it was abandoned minutes after the accident.

According to a news release, Macon police arrested Shakeno Dontaye Collins, 29, of Applewood Street, and charged him with DUI, hit and run, driving too fast for conditions, driving with a suspended license, driving on the wrong side of the road, felony obstruction, probation violation and battery family violence.
