PERRY -- Most musicians dream of making it to the big time.

For Middle Georgia band Session Road, the dream is a little closer after being signed by independent label, Pretty World Records. The label discovered the band during a talent showcase in December in Hawkinsville.

“We were very excited to get signed,” said lead vocalist Lee Peebles.

The band, with members from Fort Valley, Macon and Mauk, has been busy. It played at Our Place in Perry Friday and is booked through July.

Peebles and friend Chad Keadle, vocals and guitar, have played together for a few years, but the latest collaboration also includes songwriter Ray Shavers, who has only been in the band about a month.

Shavers wrote the song “Caterpillar Man,” which bandmates say has been climbing the indie and major charts.

“I wrote that song 18 years ago,” Shavers said.

He writes music from life experiences he had visiting his grandmother and playing under her porch.

Music has been a part of his life since he was 13.

“I’ve been trying to make it happen for years,” Shavers said about breaking into the music business.

Also in the band are Griff Griffin, bass guitar; Sammy Deep, drums; and Kenny Snow, lead guitar.

Peebles calls their music a bit of country, blues and Southern rock.

The covers they play are diverse and include Kid Rock, Steve Earle and Van Morrison.

Charly Day -- the daughter of Charlie Ammerman, who founded Pretty World Records -- was at Session Road’s show Friday in Perry.

“These guys have such potential,” said Day, who works with artists and repertoire for the label.

Session Road was the only band signed from the Hawkinsville showcase.

Day said her father, who has worked with artists such as George Jones and Johnny Paycheck, thought the group would go far.

“I think we might have a couple of hits,” Day said.
