Managers at the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center plan to expand F-15 maintenance related storage areas and build a special facility to enhance inspection of aircraft in separate contracts issued by the center this month.
A contract, worth up to $1 million, will be issued to design and build a covered storage area that will house pylons for F-15 Eagle fighter aircraft. Pylons are special areas attached to the wing of an aircraft that allow the attachment of items such as bombs, electronics, missiles, and fuel tanks. The contract calls for the construction of a covered area and an awning adjacent to an F-15 maintenance area to store the pylons during the fighter maintenance process.
F-15s are brought to Robins for a variety of maintenance tasks, including wing repair and electrical work. The repair time can take up to three months, according to base officials.
A place is needed to store the pylons while the work is ongoing. The contract calls for pouring concrete and constructing an awning. No response date is listed on the contract.
Robins also is looking for a contractor to design and build an expansion to a non-destructive inspection area. The work is worth up to $1 million.
The 2,310-square-foot facility would be used as storage and would include a small office and break room, according to the contract specifications. Non-destructive inspection uses a variety of electronic devices, including special x-ray devices, to look at aircraft and aviation parts in an attempt to find metal fatigue and other wear.
Response for the solicitation is due by April 28 at 4 p.m.
