Paul Hewitt isn't the only person leaving the Atlanta sports scene.
I am, too.
Over the weekend, I accepted a job with The Orlando Sentinel, where I will be covering Florida State athletics. I'll be living and working in Tallahassee.
My last day working for The Telegraph will be March 27. Yes, short turnaround. But have no fear, my intrepid Tech followers, I still will be writing almost daily between now and then.
As you can imagine, this has been a whirlwind last few days. My entire big-boy journalism career (read: full-time career) has been spent in Macon and Atlanta with The Telegraph and Georgia Tech. Not to mention, I was born and raised in Atlanta, so, aside from four years of college, this will be the first time I've truly lived anywhere else.
As for what's to come, I'm very excited. I believe Florida State is beginning to return to national prominence in football, and has had a good base built for basketball. And, like Tech, the baseball program usually has a chance to go to Omaha. Along with a chance to elevate my career another step, all good reasons to be looking forward to the change.
So, there you have it.
