ATHENS -- After losing one defensive assistant coach to the NFL, the Georgia football team is reaching to the pros to replace him.

Kirk Olivadotti, a longtime Washington Redskins assistant, is set to join the Bulldogs as a linebackers coach.

The hiring was confirmed by a source close to the program, as well as The Washington Post. There was no confirmation yet from Georgia.

It wasn’t clear yet whether Olivadotti will coach all linebackers. He will replace Warren Belin, who spent one year as the inside linebackers coach. Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, who was leading the search, said after Belin’s departure that he would look for the “best coach for Georgia.”¿

Olivadotti’s official title was linebackers coach from 2007-09, then switched to defensive assistant before last season. Since joining the Redskins for the 2000 season, he had also been a defensive quality control coach and defensive backs coach.

Grantham worked with Olivadotti’s father, Tom, in 2004 with the Houston Texans. Tom Olivadotti is a longtime NFL defensive assistant coach.

Kirk Olivadotti, 37, played wide receiver at Purdue from 1993-96. After graduating he coached at Maine Maritime and Indiana State.
