The Macon Water Authority said four sewage spills this past weekend released about 600,000 gallons of sewage.
The largest spill ran from Saturday morning through Sunday morning, sending an estimated 542,770 gallons of sewage from Lennox Drive into Sabbath Creek. About 2.5 inches of rain Friday caused the spill, according to the authority. The authority is rehabilitating and replacing lines in the area.
Another spill, which lasted for several hours Saturday, sent an estimated 30,250 gallons into Sabbath Creek. A third spill sent an estimated 23,600 gallons from about noon Saturday to Sunday morning, with sewage flowing from an Allen Road lift station into the Tobesofkee Basin.
The smallest spill reported was an estimated 6,375 gallons from the Riverside Cemetery area into Vineville Branch on Friday night. In all instances, corrective action was taken to remove debris and the areas were disinfected with lime.
