WARNER ROBINS -- There is more than one baseball park in Middle Georgia, and registration is in full swing.
The Warner Robins National League, once the premier park in Warner Robins but recently dwarfed by the success of Warner Robins American Little League, is growing.
There is a lot of history with the park, said league president Joey Walker.
Each of the past five years, the league has grown. Last year, there were about 220 children playing baseball at the five fields near Peavy Park in north Warner Robins, said Walker.
Affiliated with Dixie Youth, the league is being led by Walker. One of his sons coaches, and four of his children play in the league.
Walker compares the difference between Dixie and Little League International to a franchise.
Its just who you are sponsored by, he said.
The league structures its fees based on demographics. Walker said he looked at the Houston County Board of Educations elementary school statistics for children who receive reduced lunches.
The league gives out scholarships each year to needy children.
Some children in this area need more financial help, Walker said, and we recognize that reality.
Dixie Youth has a World Series and encompasses 10 states in the Southeast.
Perry Junior League, which offers baseball and softball to children ages 3 through 18, also is affiliated with Dixie Youth. It plays at Ochlahatchee Park on Frank Satterfield Road in Perry.
Michelle Bearden is the new president. She said the league in Perry has been in existence about 50 years.
In the past, Perrys softball teams have gone to the World Series for Dixie. There is talk of going again this year.
We have a very good chance to win, said Bearden.
Perrys league last year had about 350 boys and girls who played at six fields.
In Perry, registration will continue 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the fields through the first weekend of February.
Parents also may register their children with Bearden at David Ragan Ford in Perry.
WRNL has registration up until its Feb. 26 try-out.
There will be a booth at Wal-Mart on Watson Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 5 and 12.

Were here so all kids can learn to play baseball, said Clay Wilson, board member for WRNL.
