The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is asking drivers to avoid southbound Interstate 75 past the Hartley Bridge Road exit Saturday morning.

A tractor trailer hauling plastic hit the concrete divider in the center of the interstate and burst into flames at about 6:30 a.m. between Hartley Bridge and Sardis Church roads, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The cleanup is expected to take several hours.

Motorists are urged to exit I-75 south at Ga. 247 at Pio Nono Avenue and take U.S. 41 to Ga. 49 into Byron to get back onto the highway. Traffic was also backing up on I-475, so drivers are urged to exit at Eisenhower Parkway and travel east to I-75 South and take the alternate route at Pio Nono.

Macon police are helping direct the detours.
