ATHENS — Aaron Murray has done quite well in what has still been a somewhat limited gameplan, considering he’s a redshirt freshman. Now the Georgia quarterback is ready to take on more, or at least whatever offensive coordinator Mike Bobo will give him.

“I feel like he’s seen growth in me,” Murray said after Monday’s practice. “I definitely feel like I’m progressing slowly every week. I’m just trying to get better week in and be out. And just be smart.

“I think he’s gained more confidence in me and hopefully I continue to show him that I can earn his respect and earn the respect of the rest of the offense, and he can put more on my plate.”

Murray’s results would seem to favor more confidence. He was named SEC freshman of the week on Monday, the first time a Georgia player has received an SEC weekly honor this season.

Murray passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more in Georgia’s 41-14 win over Tennessee. He passed for 266 yards without an interception and was the Bulldogs’ second-leading rusher with 41 yards.

“I definitely feel like that was my best game,” Murray said. “I’m definitely feeling more comfortable getting through my reads. I feel like my reads were faster this week. From one to two, checking the ball … I think that’s me understanding the playbook better, understanding the plays better, understanding the defense.”

Ealey: Fumbling not ‘a mental thing’

Washaun Ealey’s fumbles inside the 5-yard line continued last Saturday, even though his third one of the season went out of bounds, rather than being recovered by an opponent.

But Georgia coaches gave him more chances after the second-quarter fumble, even inside the 10. It was partly out of necessity, with Carlton Thomas out, but Ealey appreciated the show of confidence.

“I feel like they got a little trust in me,” Ealey said. “I guess they need me to start making plays, to step up a lot more. And with my capability I think I can do that.”

Ealey said the red-zone fumbles were not a mental issue.

“It’s all football,” Ealey said. “When I go in there, and when contact’s coming, I’ve got to put two hands on the ball. I think I’ve got to start focusing on that more, when contact comes, just putting two hands on the ball for security.”

Kentucky under the lights

Georgia’s game at Kentucky on Oct. 23 will start at 7:30 p.m. and be broadcast on Comcast Sports South.

That means the game times have been set for all but the final two games of the regular season. The Oct. 30 game against Florida, in Jacksonville, will be at 3:30 on CBS, and the following week’s home game against Idaho State will be at 12:30 p.m.
