A Macon man drowned Sunday afternoon in Lake Juliette, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.
Saul Sanchez Garcia, 38, had been out with his family at the lake. He swam about 75 yards across the day beach area, rested in a wooded area, and then attempted to swim back. He began struggling and disappeared under the water, the sheriff’s office said.
Other swimmers pulled him out of the water and performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.
Garcia, who lived on Gray Highway and originally came from Texas, worked in a construction job at Monroe County’s Plant Scherer, said Allison Selman-Willis, the spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.
His body likely will be autopsied today at the GBI Crime Lab in Macon, Selman-Willis said. The 4 p.m. incident remains under investigation.
