Macon police arrested a woman Thursday night and charged her with aggravated assault and family violence after she allegedly stabbed her 14-year-old daughter with a steak knife, a news release said.

According to the release, Dawn Smith, 31, of the 2600 block of Leone Drive South, was arrested after she got into an argument with the girl about 6:35 p.m. At one point, Smith allegedly grabbed a steak knife and used it to stab her daughter, who does not live with her.

The girl was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia to be treated, and was later released. Smith was taken to the Bibb County jail.

Smith has been arrested 10 previous times in Bibb County since 1998, according to the release.
