CENTERVILLE — City Council on Tuesday approved giving Eagle Springs LLC a tax credit for its right of way donation toward the Margie Drive extension project.

The project will extend Margie Drive along new ground to the north so that it curves to meet Bassett Street at an intersection with North Houston Lake Boulevard. A large portion of the extension is along property owned by Eagle Springs. Margie Drive runs north and south to the west of The Galleria and now dead ends into Gunn Road.

Patrick Eidson, city administrator, said the credit amount has yet to be set and will be determined by himself and Centerville City Attorney Rebecca Tydings within the next week or so.

The tax credit will be figured based on a time period from when the donation was made at the end of June to Dec 31.

Officials have said the Margie Drive extension project will also include placement of two traffic lights, one at Margie Drive and Gunn Road, and the other at the new intersection of Margie Drive with North Houston Lake Boulevard.

In other business, the board repealed two city ordinances ,which will now fall under new state laws.

The ordinances have to do with the possession of drug-related objects and with injuring or tampering with city property and utility apparatus.

Under the city ordinance, infractions were previously heard in Municipal Court and could not carry a penalty of more than one year.

Under state law, the infractions may still be charged by the city but will not be heard in Municipal Court and may carry longer penalty periods for those convicted.
