Northside vs. Warner Robins, Oct. 1
There should never be any confusion about which game is tops in Middle Georgia. Perhaps the best rivalry in the South, Northside-Warner Robins is an indescribable experience to behold. This year’s matchup holds even more intrigue after Warner Robins erased a 20-point deficit in a 21-20 win. The Demons ended a five-year losing streak with the win.
Peach County at Warner Robins, Aug. 27
For two schools located so close, Peach County and Warner Robins are strangers on the football field. The schools have only played twice, with the Demons winning both matchups. This will be the first time the schools have played in 40 years.
Peach County at Westside, Sept. 24
Westside has won both meetings between these programs, including handing Peach County its only loss during its 2006 championship season. The Seminoles and Trojans could be playing for the GHSA Region 2-AAA championship in this matchup.
Irwin County at FPD, Aug. 26
FPD’s debut in the GHSA will come on a Thursday night against Irwin County. Many have wondered how the Macon private schools would fare against a public school, and those questions can be answered this season.
Thomas County Central at Northside, Oct. 15
Many believe Northside and Thomas County Central are the top two teams in 1-AAAA. Warner Robins might have an argument with that thought, but this should still be a good matchup.
Charlton County at Wilcox County, Oct. 8
Wilcox County’s reward for winning the state championship is playing in a region with Charlton County and Clinch County. Charlton County drops down in classification and hopes to derail the Patriots quest for a region championship.
Westside at Mary Persons, Oct. 29
The two winningest coaches in Middle Georgia history, Robert Davis and Dan Pitts, never coached against one another in a game. Their programs, however, will meet for the first time when the Seminoles and Bulldogs play in the penultimate week of the season.
Washington County at Statesboro, Sept. 3
The Golden Hawks have some lofty goals this season, but they’ll first tend to some business against the perennial power Blue Devils on the road.
Tattnall Square at Westfield, Aug. 26
An early potential playoff preview, this game features two teams that many expect to be in the mix to win a GISA Class AAA championship this season.
Cedar Grove at Veterans, Aug. 27
The Warhawks’ first game will be a serve as a tribute to military veterans and a christening of the school’s new football program.
Twiggs County at Northeast, Friday
After getting permission to play a week earlier than most every other team, Northeast and Twiggs County kick off a season that both hope end in playoff appearances.
Warner Robins at Colquitt County, Sept. 17
The Demons already have one tough non-region game against Peach County, but they also added the Packers, who are improving tremendously under head coach Rush Propst. The Packers made it to the semifinals last season.
Baldwin at Peach County, Nov. 5
The Braves and Trojans are two of the winningest programs in Middle Georgia during the past five seasons, and they both should have some playoff positioning on the line at the end of the season.
Mount de Sales at Tattnall Square, Nov. 5
Mount de Sales probably has its best team on paper since 2003, but the Cavaliers’ toughest test in region play will still be mighty Tattnall in the final game of the regular season.
Johnson County at Wilkinson County, Aug. 27
Wilkinson County has received some good buzz in the offseason, but the Warriors will face a tough test in the opener against Johnson County and its standout quarterback D.J. Rozier and receiver Zack Walker.
Wilcox County at Clinch County, Sept. 10
Although not as ballyhooed as its matchup with Charlton County, Wilcox County must also play this region game against perennial power Clinch County, a team it beat in the semifinals last year.
Southwest vs. Northeast, Oct. 22
These two city rivals will meet with playoff positioning almost assuredly on the line late in the season.
Twiggs County at Wesleyan, Sept. 10
The Cobras have the toughest non-region schedule in Middle Georgia, and this visit to play the 2008 state champions will be the stiffest test of that schedule.
Mary Persons at Jackson, Aug. 27
Two of the biggest rivals in Middle Georgia must meet in week one because the Bulldogs have nine region games during the next two seasons.
Jefferson County at Dublin, Oct. 29
The Irish nearly upset Jefferson County in the regular season finale last year. The teams have played three really competitive games the past three years.
