CENTERVILLE — City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to abandon its pre-council meetings prior to regular meetings on the first Tuesday of each month.
In bringing up the matter, Centerville Mayor John Harley said he questioned the purpose and need of pre-council meetings. He said he believed city business could be adequately taken care of by the single gathering.
The decision was made with two councilmen absent — Cameron Andrews and Edward Tucker. In discussing the proposal, Councilman Robert Smith said he supported it, but questioned whether it should be made without the full council present. Further discussion revealed it would be August before the entire council would be present and that the vote could be rescinded at that time if desired.
Centerville’s regular monthly council meetings are at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month. The pre-council meetings were at 6 p.m. Council has an additional work session each month on the third Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
